Documentary – 1st Place, Radio (markets 16+) <\/em>– Lead editor for Minnesota\u2019s Graduation Gap<\/a>,<\/span> a year-long project that combined compelling personal narratives with data to show how Minnesota, with its nation-low spending on student support services, fails students at risk of not graduating from high school on time.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Documentary\/Special – 1st Place, Large Market Radio <\/em>– Lead editor of The Protests at Standing Rock: Oil, Water, Race and Treaty Rights<\/a>, an hour-long special to provide much-needed context to what was still an ongoing protest in the middle of the Dakotas over the Dakota Access pipeline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Investigative -1st Place, Large Market Radio<\/em> – Editor for Black drivers bear brunt of routine arrests by St. Anthony PD<\/a>, an in-depth, data-driven look at arrests in the community in which Philando Castile was killed by a police officer during a traffic stop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n First place for Special Project\/In-depth Series [Radio]<\/em> \u2013 Lead editor for Minnesota\u2019s Graduation Gap<\/a>,<\/span> a year-long project that combined compelling personal narratives with data to show how Minnesota, with its nation-low spending on student support services, fails students at risk of not graduating from high school on time.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n First place for Investigative [Radio]<\/em> \u2013 Editor for Black drivers bear brunt of routine arrests by St. Anthony PD<\/a>, an in-depth, data-driven look at arrests in the community in which Philando Castile was killed by a police officer during a traffic stop.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n Documentary\/Special – 1st Place, Large Market Radio<\/em> – Lead editor for Jamar Clark special report: Chaos and Community in North Minneapolis<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Overall excellence<\/em> for MPR News. The team entry<\/a> included several of my contributions: a segment<\/a> from the Jamar Clark special report; our Climate Change in Minnesota report<\/a>; a story on the iconic status of walleye<\/a> in Minnesota; an analysis of arrest disparities<\/a> that relied on my data cleaning and crunching skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I was one of several editors on the Betrayed by Silence<\/a> team that revealed how the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis covered up clergy abuse. This body of work was also honored as an IRE finalist in 2014<\/a> and 2013<\/a>, and won numerous regional awards. One of my major contributions<\/a> to this coverage won a RTNDA Regional Murrow Award<\/a> in 2015 for investigative reporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Radio – Silver Award<\/em> I was one of two editors on our Climate Change in Minnesota<\/a> project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Audio Investigative Reporting<\/em> – Lead editor for our series Minnesota: Weak on Bullying<\/a>. The series also won Minnesota AP Best in Show<\/em> honors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Audio<\/em> – I edited the half-dozen stories reported by high school age reporters<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Breaking news or continuing coverage of a single news event<\/i> – As news director, I had primary responsibility for our coverage of the I-35W bridge collapse<\/a>, which killed 13 people.
